The shooting in the Kreuzberg district of Berlin, in which four people were injured today, began after a conflict between men. This was announced in a joint statement by the police and prosecutors in the German capital, Berlin, TASS reported.

“This morning in Kreuzberg, four men were seriously injured after an argument,” the document says.

According to preliminary data, citizens heard gunshots and alerted the police around 04:00 local time. Law enforcement officers found three victims at the scene and another wounded man jumped into a nearby canal and was pulled out by rescuers.

All the victims were hospitalized. An investigation is ongoing. Prosecutors said on Twitter that the incident took place “in the middle of organized crime.” Cases of “murder” have been filed against “various” people.

The shots were fired near the headquarters of the German Social Democratic Party, but law enforcement officials say the event has no political overtones. Other details have yet to be announced.
