The first COVID-19 vaccines arrived at the Center for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases on December 26.

Tomorrow, January 4, the second delivery of Pfizer / BioNTech vaccines for Bulgaria will arrive at Sofia airport, announced the press service of the Ministry of Health.

From the airport logistics center, they will be distributed to certain parts of the country. The expected quantity and where it will be transported is not announced.

The first shipment of 9,750 doses, enough to vaccinate about 5,000 people, was delivered on December 26. Vaccination started in Sofia, Plovdiv and Burgas, and doctors working on the front lines in the fight against COVID-19 were the first to receive the vaccine.

To date, according to the National Information Portal, 4,739 people have been vaccinated.

The ambition of the authorities is to vaccinate 70% of Bulgarians. Manipulation is optional and free for users. At its last meeting in 2020, the government allocated 125 million BGN for vaccines.

The vaccine produced by Pfizer / BioNTech is stored under special conditions, at minus 70 degrees until it reaches Bulgaria. It is then allowed to stay in a common refrigerator for about 5 days. The Bulgarian company Bull Bio, which handles the nationwide delivery, had rented refrigerated buses from a sausage production and distribution company, causing confusion and numerous jokes on social media. Logistics officials assured that everything was fine.
