The severe accident that killed journalist Milen Tsvetkov took place at the intersection in front of Paradise Mall on April 19.

The Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office has completed the investigation against the driver Christian Nikolov, accused of intentionally causing the serious accident in which journalist Milen Tsvetkov died at Easter.

The state prosecutor’s office announced that the conclusions of all the expert reports designated so far were ready and on the basis of what was established in them today, the classification of the crime in which Nikolov, 22, is accused was specified.

Investigators found that around 6 p.m. on April 19 on Henrik Ibsen Street, before the intersection with Cherni Vrah Blvd., while driving an Audi Q7 car, the defendant Nikolov violated traffic rules as a result of in which It caused a traffic accident and deliberately caused the death of another road user. It was also established that Milen Tsvetkov was waiting at a traffic light, stopped on the highway with a Subaru Forrester.

The indictment states that the case is particularly serious, as Nikolov was driving the jeep after consuming three different types of drugs (amphetamine, marijuana and cocaine). In addition, he was driving at a speed significantly higher than that allowed in the section, about 99 km / h.

It was also confirmed that when approaching the intersection at a red light, Nikolov did not attempt to slow down or stop. At the same time, there were many more people on the road and in the intersection area, both drivers and pedestrians.

For this crime, in the case of intentional death, the law provides prison sentences of 10 to 20 years and, in especially serious cases, 15 to 20 years or life imprisonment. The Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office is about to present the materials in the case of the victims, as well as the accused and his defense, and then the accusation will be presented to the court.

Christian Nikolov has been detained with the most severe preventive detention measure since April, when the Sofia Municipal Court ordered his permanent detention. The serious incident became an occasion for GERB to demand legislative changes to increase the penalties for driving after using alcohol and drugs. Chief prosecutor Ivan Geshev made a similar appeal.
