The prime minister spoke to Vucic and promised the Sofia-Belgrade highway for the coming new year

By next new year we will have a road built between Sofia and Belgrade. This was announced by Prime Minister Boyko Borissov in a telephone conversation with Serbian President Alexander Vucic. The two talked about cooperation in infrastructure and energy and congratulated each other on the occasion of the new 2021. They expressed their confidence that the excellent friendly and good-neighborly relations will continue to be actively developed in all areas of mutual interest, the government press service said.

Borissov and Vucic discussed the progress in the construction of the Europa motorway, which is part of the main trans-European transport network. The highway is in the direction of London-Budapest-Belgrade-Sofia-Plovdiv-Istanbul-Calcutta and is the shortest road connecting Western Europe to the Middle East.

The Bulgarian Prime Minister stressed that half a year earlier than planned in the November contract last year. The first 17-kilometer section of the Europa highway between Dragoman and Slivnitsa was built.

Another focus of the conversation between Borissov and Vucic was the energy association.

“In the worst Covid-19 pandemic, work on energy projects in our country continues, which is why Serbia is becoming a gas transit country. “We have also focused our efforts on building another interconnection to Sofia with Serbia to ensure the security of energy supply,” Borissov said.

Borissov and Vucic said that once the Covid-19 pandemic situation allowed it, the two would meet personally.
