The National Assembly finally rejected the GERB’s proposal to create a special procedure for the election of deputies to the Grand National Assembly, according to which 200 of the deputies to the Grand National Assembly are elected by the proportional electoral system and the remaining 200 by the majority electoral system.
The proposal was rejected by a total of 162 votes, of which 63 voted in favor and 99 against.
Hristian Mitev of the United Patriots said he was satisfied in principle with the rejection of the proposal. It is motivated by the provisions of article 157 of the Constitution, according to which elections to the Grand National Assembly are held in accordance with the general procedure. Mitev insisted that the creation of a special chapter that regulates special rules for the election of representatives of the Supreme National Assembly should not be supported. The deputy stressed that the implementation of such a mixed system, such as the GERB proposal to elect the deputies elected proportionally and by majority, should not limit representation, on the contrary, he said, should guarantee the maximum opposite representation of all audiences. groups in the resolution of important issues, such as the reform of the Constitution.
BSP MP Smilyana Nitova said it was time for the ruling party to throw away “this gum” for the Grand National Assembly. She stressed that there will be no such and the only way out is resignation and fair elections. Her colleague from the left, Filip Popov, said there was no expert who would have given a positive opinion on these GERB proposals. We will not participate in this theater, the only objectives of this theater are to make the voting machine, which they achieved yesterday, make no sense, and the second is to stay in power at least a little longer, he commented.
