The military of the Bulgarian Army are assisting medical teams in the country’s military hospitals in the battle against COVID-19. Specialized teams from the 38th Nuclear, Chemical and Biological Protection and Ecology Battalion, the Unified Initial Training Center and the Land Forces Training Center for Specialists participated in the fight against the infection.
They are attached to hospitals in Sofia, Varna, Plovdiv, Pleven and Sliven and carry out activities mainly related to the disinfection of medical institutions. In Sofia hospital they also help in the virology laboratory. Patients spill media in virology for PCR tests, perform thermometry and disinfection of common areas in clinics and hospital wards.
Teams will rotate every two weeks.
An organization has been established and as of today, the military who suffered from COVID-19 are already donating blood plasma at the Transfusion Hematology Center of the Military Medical Academy in Sofia. The campaign was organized on the order of Defense Minister Krassimir Karakachanov, who provided the opportunity for anyone who wanted to become a donor to help treat patients in serious condition.
