Due to the divorce, the mother feared that the children would be handed over to the father. According to one version, she killed them to avenge her husband.
“Obviously there were some personal and social problems in the Traikovi family,” added the mayor.
Sandanski is said to have been the victim of brutal domestic violence for years. She was regularly seen in the city with signs of heavy beatings, but investigators did not say at this time if they had received any complaints from Christina about the harassment.
