With 11 votes in favor, 9 against and no abstention, the legal commission adopted in first reading the proposals to reform the Electoral Code of the GERB related to automatic voting.

The changes give everyone the opportunity to vote by machine or paper ballot. With machines, it is planned to vote in all types of elections, except for local government, and one device will be provided in each section with more than 300 voters.

It is also proposed that the audit, testing and certification of the voting devices be carried out by the State Agency for Electronic Government together with the Bulgarian Institute for Standardization and the Bulgarian Institute of Metrology.

The amendments also foresee a change in the election system of the Grand National Assembly: the idea is that 200 deputies are elected proportionally and the remaining 200, by majority.

It is also possible to extend the election day to 48 hours, given the extraordinary epidemic situation.
