One of the largest hotels in the world is 4 kilometers long and can accommodate 20,000 tourists at a time, but it has never been open to tourists.
The island of Rügen has attracted the attention of tourists since the creation of the German Empire. It is located on the Baltic Sea. It was this place that was chosen for the implementation of one of the most incredible and large-scale projects of the Third Reich. As the project has stopped, the hotel does not have an official name, but was unofficially nicknamed The Prophetic Colossus, writes pochivka.blitz.bg.
Clemens Klotz was appointed chief architect. The gigantic architectural site stretches in a straight line along the shores of the Baltic Sea for 4 kilometers. All the room windows face the beautiful sea, merging with the sky on the horizon. The facades of buildings do not differ in complex patterns, they are uniform and monochromatic.
Practicality and the search for complete simplification are the main characteristics of German architecture of this period. An outdoor pool would be located near each building. It was planned to place spotlights along the perimeter of the territory, and at night their rays outline the contours of an incredible temple of light.
The giant hotel was designed for 20,000 tourists. Today, the most spacious hotel is the Malaysia First World Hotel, which has more than 7,000 rooms in its buildings. If the “Prophetic Colossus” were completed, it would break the record of its Malaysian competitor.
Why has no guest ever received such an ambitious project?
World War II destroyed all the plans. In the immediate aftermath of the war, the hotel housed residents of heavily destroyed cities. In 1948, the rooms were converted into barracks for 10,000 soldiers. Since 1992, the rooms of the Prophetic Colossus have been empty.
It wasn’t until 2010 that the hotel was bought by a large German real estate company, which undertook the restoration of the giant. The design has been slightly modified, preference is given to lighter colors.
The rooms have glass-enclosed balconies. The reconstruction of the hotel is now in full swing. By 2022, according to the forecasts of the workers, the construction should be finished.
