“An important part of the measures taken by the Ministry of Education and Science before the first school day are exaggerated and unnecessary.” This was told to BNR by adjunct professor Atanas Mangarov, head of the children’s ward of the Infectious Diseases Hospital in Sofia. According to him, the same thing happens with checkpoints and the closure of parks in winter:

“We are about to repeat the same thing, but now in the schools driven by some fear. We will do the same stupid things we did then, but this time it will be at the expense of our children.”

He pointed out a simple formula to avoid worry and create chaos: children who are sick should not go to school and healthy children should go quietly to school.

According to Adjunct Professor Mangarov, isolation rooms in schools will not be efficient, because before being isolated there, the child was already with the other children in the classroom.

“Another thing: walking in the break with children with masks, and in class, without masks. This is complete nonsense. So far there is no statistically proven study that claims that wearing masks has a significant benefit. More so when used by incompetents -like children- and homemade cloth masks … It has been proven that those who make artisan masks can be infected three times more than those who do not wear masks, ”said the infectious diseases specialist.

According to Mangarov, the “investigation” should stop:

“This will become difficult because everyone is happy to receive 1 million BGN a day for testing, which is a net profit.” That is the business of the laboratories that do the tests, he stressed and explained:

“Why should a public resource be spent on someone who wants to get tested? To get tested. A positive test costs us 3,000 leva and often we are talking about people who have nothing.”

In the “12 + 3” program, Prof. Mangarov commented that globally, the countries that were most severely closed in the winter due to the pandemic are now waiting for a second wave, and those that were “free” with the most relaxed. measures, now has the fewest new infections and the fewest deaths.

In relation to the vaccines being developed against Covid-19, Associate Prof. Atanas Mangarov commented:

“It’s not about making the vaccine itself, it’s that it has to be clinically very well tested for both safety and efficacy.”
