The “poisonous trio”, which emerged as an organizer of the anti-government protests in Bulgaria, appealed to the embassies of the United States, Great Britain and the EU countries in Bulgaria, as well as the European Commission Representation in Sofia. His speech refers to the events of the last hour of September 2, when serious clashes broke out between protesters and police during the demonstrations against the status quo.
“After the brutal violence against peacefully protesting citizens, institutions such as the public prosecutor’s office, which is supposed to protect the rights of citizens in the Republic of Bulgaria, remain silent, which is part of the crimes committed against the Bulgarian people. Corruption and the mafia rule the unprecedented size of the country’s security systems and make the Alliance highly vulnerable to intrusion by foreign interests … We are aware that due to the nature, status and commitments placed upon it impose, you cannot reason with the authorities in Bulgaria, but you can betray the information we provide to your governments, “called the Poison Trio.

Excellencies,
Dear ladies and gentlemen,
The daily peaceful civil protests in the country have been going on for more than two months. They are a protest against the violation of basic civil rights in Bulgaria, the monstrous corruption and the trampling of the principles of democracy. The criminal amalgamation of the executive and the judiciary has increased tensions in the government, which has taken action not against the plagues listed above, but against peacefully protesting citizens, whose numbers are increasing by the day. The refusal to dialogue and the impotence of the authorities led to a violent attack on the peaceful protests of the citizens and a series of unconstitutional measures, which led to many people being beaten and gassed, mistreated by the police in protest and illegal detentions.
The tensions in the first week of September threaten civil peace in Bulgaria, which in no way applies to a country that has met the criteria for joining the EU, and in particular to those of stable institutions that guarantee democracy, the state of law and human rights. Commitments to effectively comply with the Copenhagen criteria are part of Bulgaria’s obligations under its EU membership, namely:
– “Rule of law”. This criterion is practically invalid for Bulgaria, as the judiciary is crushed, constitutional rights are not respected, and the prosecution has become a dominant and oppressive body for the entire judiciary and free citizens.
-“Market economy”. In Bulgaria, only those loyal to the government get public procurement, the main funds from European funds, and deals offered by the state and municipalities. The rest are pressured, controlled and sanctioned by the authorities. Artificial monopolies are being created in various sectors of the economy. The Prime Minister of the Republic in leaked records speaks of “blurring the face” of a financial opponent who does not obey his will. There are similar measures against businessmen who participate in gratuitous civil protests.
– “Stable democracy”. In our country, we cannot talk about this in the case of massive vote buying and electoral fraud, dismissals for political reasons, suppression of freedom of expression, ignoring the separation of powers and crushing protests.
The same questions apply to Bulgaria’s membership in NATO. According to the Strategic Concept for the Protection and Security of NATO Members: “The primary and enduring objective of NATO is to protect the freedom and security of all its members by political and military means. NATO member states form a unique community of values committed to the principles of individual freedom, democracy, human rights and the rule of law ”. This contradicts the facts listed above and the events that affected the period from September 1-6, 2020:
• More than 120 protesters illegally arrested;
• More than 300 gassed during the September 2 protest;
• More than 100 citizens abused by the police.
The police deny all the information!
Following the brutal violence against peacefully protesting citizens, institutions such as the public prosecutor’s office, which is supposed to protect the rights of citizens in the Republic of Bulgaria, are silent, which becomes part of the crimes committed against the Bulgarian people. Corruption and Mafia dominance have eroded the country’s security systems to an unprecedented degree and made the Alliance highly vulnerable to intrusion by foreign interests.
We, as part of civil society in a member state of the European Union and NATO, declare our total intolerance to the arrogant violation of the constitutional rights of citizens, the basic principles of democracy and European values. We are aware that due to the nature, status and commitments that have been placed on you, you cannot report to the Bulgarian authorities, but you can pass on the information we provide to your governments.
We declare that we will continue to protest peacefully, as a conscious civil society, until our goals are achieved.
With respect:
