The first coup of the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of the Interior in Plovdiv was on October 8 with the opening of a modern tobacco factory in the town of Zhelyazno. Marlboro cigarettes were produced there. In addition to the machines, there were special bedrooms and room service rooms.
“Millionaire budget damages have been avoided due to unpaid excise taxes thanks to the Ministry of the Interior and the Plovdiv Public Prosecutor’s Office,” Chief Prosecutor Ivan Geshev later wrote on Twitter, who personally visited the place.
Two days later, the police destroyed another cigarette mafia base in the town of Calapitsa. Machines and complete equipment for the production of tobacco and cigarettes were found and seized in the room, as well as a solid number of finished products without special labels. Participants in the criminal scheme produced cigarettes of the Moldovan brand Prugular.
Another blow by the Ministry of the Interior against the smuggling of excise goods occurred over the weekend, when about 3 tons of tobacco were seized from a room in the village of Kalekovets. The room was well disguised with sheet metal and wood paneling on the windows, and inside the police found 3 machines to cut tobacco and one to dry it. Two 40-year-old men from Plovdiv and Pazardzhik were arrested for the criminal scheme. According to our media, the Kalekovets and Tsalapitsa factories are owned by the same owners.
