The German team recorded a historic victory in the Nations League tournament. The Bundestim beat the crippled Ukraine team 2: 1 in Kiev. This is the first victory for Joachim Loew’s team in the race. Last season, which was the first in the tournament, Germany could not beat a single opponent, they did not even leave League A, but after a change in the rules, the Germans finally kept their place.
In the first two games of the new campaign, the Germans again failed to win, registering two draws.
The goals of today’s winners were scored by Matthias Ginter and Leon Gorecka, while Ruslan Malinowski was fitting for the hosts.
Coach Andriy Shevchenko’s team is in an extremely unenviable position, as the coach couldn’t count on 14 of his players who were absent due to injuries or coronavirus infection.

The first real scoring opportunity in the match came in minute 5 and was at the expense of the guests. Serge Gnabri received in front of the Ukrainian penalty area and fired instantly. The shot hit the body of goalkeeper Bushchan, who managed to deflect.
Although good minutes followed for the home team, Germany managed to take the lead in the 20th minute of the match. After an attack forged by the three centrals of the guests in this match, Ginter was in the right place and he realized it. After a corner and play, the ball centered in front of the penalty area, where Zule managed to deflect Rüdiger to the left, turned very well and invaded the penalty area and managed to cross. Gnabri tried to play technically with a heel, but missed and the ball hit Ginter, who hit the goal a few meters away.
In the next attack, Ukraine was able to equalize after a defensive error. However, Yarmolenko shot incorrectly from almost 20 meters.
In the 31st minute, Yosua Kimih attempted a graceful shot in the direction of Ukraine’s goal, which almost surprised goalkeeper Bushchan. Kimih shot technically, sending the ball under the crossbar, but the point guard showed class and took a corner.
Serge Gnabri squandered the next excellent scoring opportunity for the guests. Ginter crossed perfectly to the right of the open striker, who made a good header, but again the Ukraine goalkeeper showed class and killed on another corner kick.
Two minutes before the break, Tony Kroos also tried his luck, but his strong shot off a pass from Halstenberg missed the goal.

The second half of the Olympic Stadium in Kiev started well for the guests, who after only four minutes of play managed to double their advantage. This happened not without the help of the host Bushchn’s goalkeeper, who made a fatal mistake. After a seemingly innocuous cross from the right, the Ukraine guard jumped up and caught the ball for a moment, but then he dropped it and happily bounced off Goretska’s head and flew to the hosts’ gate for 2-0.
In the 57th minute, Bundestim missed another excellent opportunity for a new goal. Julian Draxler paraded through the home defense, beating more than four defenders on the left, reached the profile and focused on the far post where Lucas Klosterman fired unmolested. The ball hit insidiously, but Bushchan scored with the last effort.
One of the rare occasions for Andriy Shevchenko’s team came only after an hour of play. Center forward Viktor Tsigankov received in the penalty area, slightly to the left of the home team’s attack. Although there was a man in front of him, the Ukrainian decided to shoot instead of looking for a combination. His shot, however, did not achieve much and did not hinder Manuel Neuer in any way.
The German team complicated their situation by allowing a penalty goal in the 26th minute. Nicholas Zule fouled in the area, causing Yaremchuk to stumble. The defense himself realized his mistake and did not even protest against the referee’s decision. Ruslan Malinowski got behind the ball and didn’t make a mistake, reducing his team’s responsibilities.
In the 81st minute Georgy Bushchan saved an excellent shot from Serge Gnabri, keeping his team’s hopes up.
In the final moments of the match, the hosts tried to apply chaotic pressure, which, however, resulted in nothing more than a few weak shots, which did not hinder Manuel Neuer.
Thus, Germany registered its first success in history in the League of Nations. After the victory, Yogi Lev’s team collected an asset of 5 points and displaced Ukraine from second place in Group 4 of League A. The leader is the Spanish team with seven points.
