Employers’ total expenses per hour worked by their employees increased 9.9% in the second quarter of 2020 compared to the second quarter of 2019. The increase in industry was 10.7%, in services, 9.1%, and construction, 6.0%. This is demonstrated by preliminary data from the National Institute of Statistics.
By economic activities in the second quarter of 2020, the highest growth in total labor costs compared to the same period of the previous year was recorded in the economic sectors “Real estate activities” – by 23.3%, “Education” – by 18.5%, and Mining and quarrying: 13.8%.
In the second quarter of 2020 compared to the second quarter of 2019, compensation costs per hour worked increased by 9.7% and other costs (excluding compensation) by 10.9%. By economic sectors, the variation in compensation expenses with respect to the same period of the previous year ranged from 24.1% for Real Estate Operations to 3.4% for Hotel and Restaurant Management.
