The “Great Popular Uprising” against the ruling party began with a massive protest in front of the building of the former House of the Party, which was besieged by the police and the gendarmerie.

Disgruntled people throw eggs, tomatoes and counterfeit 500 euro bills at the police.

The protesters try to break the police cordon. One of the protesters was arrested by the police.

The tension builds. There are injured protesters and police.

Organizers hope this will be the most powerful protest against GERB, which after 55 days of unrest will finally lead to the resignation of Prime Minister Boyko Borissov, his ministers and Chief Prosecutor Ivan Geshev.

“Every village, city, municipality and district must send the most dignified, strongest and freedom loving citizens to tell them ‘out’!”, Arman Babikyan, one of the members of the “Poison Trio”, called in one direction .

The opposition groups also asked their men to leave.

The event is under the slogan “Great Uprising of the People”, a play on words with Borissov’s intention to convene a Grand National Assembly.

The first session of the National Assembly after the summer break begins at 9 o’clock. Some opposition lawmakers have already entered the building.

The ruling GERB party will try to gather the 120 votes necessary to initiate the process of convening a Grand National Assembly.

There will be protests in other cities of the country.
