At its next online meeting yesterday, the Boyko Borissov government allocated 1 billion BGN to combat the coronavirus pandemic. The funds will be used later this year and next.
Most of this amount belongs to the finances of the EU REACT-EU instrument, which includes unspent money from EU funds, which are redirected to combat the coronavirus. Bulgaria expects BGN 804 million from them, announced Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Donchev. He clarified that so far no additional European funding has been received to deal with the effects of the economic and health crisis.
REACT-EU support is divided into two tranches with the EU budgets for 2021 and 2022, and the funds for Member States for 2022 will be established in the autumn of next year. Next year, measures will be financed to support investment in health products and services, investment support for small and medium-sized businesses, employment plans and support for the self-employed.
At the meeting, the government distributed another BGN 182 million from the Human Resource Development PO. They are for the payment of an additional 1,000 BGN per month to first-line doctors in the fight against infection.
In the framework of the operational program, the municipalities will also be financed by patronage. Funds are also provided for companies in which activity is temporarily suspended, the government also announced.
The government has allocated an additional BGN 14 million to the Health Ministry to purchase more doses of the drug remdesivir, which is used in patients with complications from the coronavirus in hospitals.
