The goalkeeper’s mistake led Spain to beat Switzerland in a boring match

The Spanish team won their home game against Switzerland with a minimum 1: 0 in a match of Group 4 of League A of the League of Nations tournament. The only hit scored Mikel Ojarsabal in the 14th minute. The match was not very emotional, and the winning goal for “La Roja” came after a blunder by Swiss goalkeeper Jan Sommer.

In the first half the hosts were the most active team and deservedly led. In the second half, the Crusaders played better and attacked more often, but there were no real dangers. With this victory, Spain added 7 points and continues to lead the group. Switzerland is last with a point after three games. The next game for Luis Enrique’s former students is a visit to Ukraine, while for Vladimir Petkovic’s boys a visit to Germany is next.

In the first 10 minutes, both teams attempted several attacks, which, however, offered nothing more dangerous.

The first serious situation was at the door of the hosts. In the 12th minute Loris Benito intercepted an excellent cross from the far post down the right by Silvan Widmer, but David De Gea had covered his close corner, showed a great reflection and scored on a corner kick.

However, out of nowhere, the Spanish took the lead. In the 14th minute, Crusaders goalkeeper Jan Sommer made a fatal mistake after attempting to combine with captain Granit Jaka. The pass turned out to be inaccurate and Mikel Merino immediately managed to steal the ball and found Mikel Ojarsabal in the penalty area, who immediately fired and realized – 1: 0.

In the 28th minute, the Spanish had the opportunity to double the score after Jesús Navas crossed into the penalty area, where Ferran Torres shot perfectly with a 9-meter header, but Sommer this time reacted well and killed.

The hosts started the second half strong and in the 52nd minute Ojarsabal had the opportunity to score again. Navas crossed to the right of the far post, Sommer was again unconvincing and could not play with the ball, and the Real Sociedad star this time did not know how to add the ball to the net.

A minute later, the Swiss organized a great attack, in which Admir Mehmedi got behind the defense of the Spaniards, entered the penalty area from the right and tried a shot, which was blocked and the ball was caught by De Gea without problems.

Shortly after an hour of play, La Roja again had an excellent opportunity to score a second goal, when after a corner kick the ball was exposed by Merino, who shot from the penalty spot with a rather imprecise position.

In the 68th minute there was a run in the guests’ penalty area, where Sergio Ramos shot, and the ball bounced off the hand of Granit Jaca, which, however, got stuck and went to the corner. The hosts had claims for a penalty, which were not respected by the higher judge. After the corner kick, Ramos fired again, but this time with his head out.

Nine minutes before the end of regulation time, Gerard Moreno attempted a volley from the edge of the penalty area, but rather vaguely at the start.

In the closing minutes of the clash, the Swiss attacked en masse in an attempt to reach an equalizer, but there were no real dangers for De Gea.
