The authorities assured that there was no danger of another explosion. It is not yet clear what caused the fire. There are no reports of victims. The fire was extinguished later that day.

On August 4, two blasts in a row killed about 190 people and injured 6,000 in Beirut, BGNES reported. The explosion completely destroyed most of the port and the surrounding neighborhoods. The tragedy was caused by a large shipment of ammonium nitrate, which was stored in the port without complying with security measures.
The port is a vital facility for the Lebanese economy, built primarily on imports.
