Fire in the locomotive of the fast train on the Sofia – Bourgas line. The incident occurred at noon today in the area of the railway crossing near the village of Aytos de Karageorgievo. Although the passengers were evacuated, there was no danger to the passengers and staff on the train, BDZ announced. The fire started in the engine room of the locomotive. The quick reaction of the drivers did not allow the flames to grow.
Most likely it is a short circuit. Damage is most visible in broken windows. 30 people were evacuated.
Subsequently, the train moved to Chernograd station, from where another train could take passengers to Burgas.
“I was asleep. I was asleep on the train. At one point I get up after 5 minutes. They call me, get up, the train is on fire. And I got up. That was the whole truth. We got up and went back,” Stefanov told BNT.
“How not to be afraid. It’s good that the driver came and made us all go to the last car,” said Zlatina Ivanova.
“Flames came out, then smoke. It smells like rubber, plastic, etc.,” Mladen Ivanov said.
Drivers say old locomotive accidents are becoming more frequent.
“There are oils inside, hundreds of liters of oil. Here are burning filters that develop a high temperature. That’s it. We turn on and that’s it,” said Krasen Cheneshev, a driver.
The damaged locomotive was towed to Karnobat station.
