European countries will be advised to open their borders to tourists for countries with similar conditions, Euractiv said.
European officials are expected to propose a three-stage plan to open the border to tourists. EU tourism countries are pressing for an option to admit tourists.
Opinions in the European Commission on the subject were mixed. Until then, EU countries are negotiating bilateral agreements on tourist corridors.
Austrian Prime Minister Sebastian Kurz has already announced plans to open the country’s border to citizens of the Czech Republic and Germany. Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia open their borders on May 15.
European officials acknowledge that there is no way to avoid such agreements. From there, however, they demand clear ideas to determine the admitted tourists.
France and Great Britain are already negotiating a tourist corridor between the two countries.
Greece hopes to attract tourists from the Balkans and central countries.
