Members of the BSP today elect a party chairman, Bulgarian National Radio reports. This is the first direct election of a leader in the history of the BSP.

Four candidates remain in the competition: current leader Cornelia Ninova, her party’s MP Kiril Dobrev, MPs Valeri Zhablyanov, and Krassimir Yankov. Two days ago, Georgi Todorov submitted a declaration of withdrawal from the race and his registration was deleted. Voters will be warned at the polling station that their vote for Todorov will be considered invalid.

At the end of the campaign, Zhablyanov and Yankov called in a common position that the Socialists not participate in direct elections, due to what they said was a flawed procedure. According to them, the established organization is a prerequisite for large manipulations and replacement of the actual result.

About 80,000 people have the right to vote, but their exact total number is unclear. Socialists who died, left and left on Election Day have already been removed from the voter rolls, but the Central Commission for Direct Elections has not requested information from the municipal commissions on the final number of local voters.

The polling stations of the country are 11:40. Election day begins at 7:00 a.m. and will last until 7:00 p.m. There are three types of sections: stationary, mobile and mobile, as the mobile will move on a schedule between small settlements.

At the end of Sunday, the result of the direct election for president of the BSP is expected, said Emil Voinov, president of the Central Election Commission.

According to the rules adopted by the National Council of the BSP, an election is considered regular if more than half of the BSP members eligible to vote participated. The presidential candidate who has received more than half of the actual votes has been elected. If there is a second round, it will be in a week, on September 19. The session of the 50th BSP Congress is scheduled for September 26, at which a National Council and an All-Party Control Commission will be elected, adds Bulgarian National Radio.
