On March 17, everyone who bears the name of Alexi celebrates the birthday in St. Venerable Alexis, a man of God (which means – helper), as well as Alex, Alexa, Aleko, Alexei, writes petel.bg.
On this day, the Christian Church honors the memory of S. Venerable Alejo, man of God. He was born in ancient Rome during the reign of Theodosius the Great.
His parents decided to marry him very early, despite his intention to dedicate themselves to God. Before Alexy’s wedding, St. appeared to her. Paul, who told him: “He who loves father and mother more than me is not worthy of me.” In front of the altar, Alexius looked at the cross remorsefully, then quietly left the church, leaving all his loved ones behind.
He spent 18 years in a monastery in Syria. There he became a highly respected saint, whose solemn and silent consecration was often the subject of much discussion not only among monks but also in the society he served. The saint, in the name of his promise to God, spent most of his conscious life in silence and concealed his identity.
The punishments and deprivations he endured for his hesitation were too cruel and shrouded in silence. He received the title of “man of God” after his death, due to his self-denial and complete devotion to the service of God.
Naming Day is celebrated by: Aleko, Alexa, Alexey, Alexi, Alexy.
