Vice President of the United States Mike Pence is in self-isolation after a member of his team tested positive for coronavirus. According to a source quoted by the Associated Press, Pence will work from home.
According to the source, Pence made this decision based on a recommendation from medical officials. The vice president has been tested multiple times after being exposed to Covid-19 and so far the result has been negative.
The move came after three members of the White House coronavirus team were quarantined after contacting Pence spokeswoman Katie Miller. One of these members, Dr. Anthony Fauci, said he would not completely isolate himself and wear a mask in public.
Covid-19 victims in the United States are at least 79,000 and infected with at least 1,300,000.
Meanwhile, the administration has defended its calls for the prompt opening of the business. In an interview with ABC, economic adviser Larry Kudlow commented that the authorities’ instructions combined with the innovation of private companies are the key to a safe return to normal economic conditions.
The pandemic hit the American economy and left millions of people unemployed. Kudlow expects unemployment to top 20 percent this month or next, according to AFP. Just a few days ago, it was announced that unemployment in April was 14.7 percent. 20.5 million in the country lost their jobs last month, one of the worst employment rates since the Great Depression.
To date, about $ 3 trillion has been approved to cope with the effects of the pandemic on the economy. Lawmakers are working on a new package, but there is still no indication of the bipartisan support needed.
