Montana soccer coach Nikola Spasov has died after a long treatment with a coronavirus, the club announced Monday morning. The specialist was hospitalized for three weeks with complications and double bronchopneumonia.

Spasov, who was supposed to turn 62 in December, has been leading Montana since this year, and after 12 rounds, the team ranks 11th in the First League with 12 points.

As a footballer, Nikola Spasov plays for Lokomotiv (Sofia), Dunav, Cherno More and Spartak (Varna), as well as five clubs in Portugal. As a coach, he leads 11 teams in five countries and achieved his greatest success with the Black Sea, where he won the Bulgarian Cup in 2015.
With the Varna team he also won the Bulgarian Super Cup, and in 2009 led him to third place in the championship.
