The Commission for the Protection of Competition (CPC) took just over half a month to allow Nova Broadcasting Group to acquire Channel 3 and four other music radio and television channels. The deal was announced in early September. In its analysis, the Antitrust Commission emphasizes that “the concentration will not lead to the establishment or strengthening of a dominant position that would affect effective competition” in the media market. According to the CPC, the agreement “could not have anti-competitive effects.” Read more about the reasons for the commission here.
The commission acted equally swiftly by purchasing Nova TV from brothers Kiril and Georgi Domuschievi. In February 2019, the two acquired the medium, after it was previously owned by Sweden’s MTG, and the candidate for it was Czech businessman Petr Kellner. In just 16 days, the CPC found that the deal would not harm the media market and would not violate competition principles, although it had been considering Kellner’s offer to acquire it for months.
With the permission of the Antitrust Commission, Nova Broadcasting Group will add to its group of media Channel 3 and the radios Veselina, Vitosha, Magic FM, The Voice and the musical television The Voice TV.
“Channel 3” contacts MRF deputy Delyan Peevski, recalls “Capital”. At the beginning of June last year, it was clear from the documents submitted to the Commercial Registry that Iva Stoyanova had become the owner of 90% of this television. However, in February of this year, the television station became part of Best Success Services. Gergana Danova has been named its true owner. Iva Stoyanova is currently the manager of Nova Broadcasting Group.
Just 4 days after the Domuschievs became owners of Nova TV, former Channel 3 news director Milana Veleva took on the same role at Nova TV. A little later, the journalist Vasil Ivanov from “Channel 3” returned to the “Nova TV” team at the invitation of Kiril Domuschiev. Several other journalists from the television station connected to MRF deputy Delyan Peevski switched to Nova.
The Association of European Journalists – Bulgaria evaluated the agreement negatively. According to her, the future united media group will be a large media conglomerate for the country.
