An actor from Plovdiv complained that he had been fired from the Gabrovo State Drama Theater. The reason, according to him – his appearances during the protests in the country.
Daniel Mihailov, 24, is always at the forefront of the big protests in Plovdiv, which take place every Thursday. Yesterday he went to a rehearsal at the theater, where he has been working for several months, but was unpleasantly surprised.
“I went and put on my work clothes. The director asked us to be alone, the other actors came out of the room and said I was fired. I asked him” Why? “He said it was because of my frivolous attitude towards the theater, as, perhaps, he was referring to two days before, when I didn’t go to work, “he explained.
So far, the actor claims to have gone to all rehearsals. He only missed one because he had no money for a ticket to Gabrovo.
“In the conversation he pointed out that I am trying to become famous in another way, with my civil position, with the interviews with the media, with my ostentatious disagreement with the authorities in Bulgaria,” added the actor.
According to the director of the Gabrovo theater, the actor is on probation and his decision is for disciplinary reasons.
“He came in on Sunday at 11:00 for a rehearsal, where I told him I would release him from the contract because he did not show up for work,” Petko Koychev said.
“In the Gabrovo theater there are other employees who actively express their civil position in the same way that you can ask them if there is political repression against them,” explained Koychev.
“His free interpretation of what a work process means in the theater does not match the actual work process in the theater,” said theater director Petrinel Gochev.
The young man is determined to seek work again as an actor, but this time in a private theater.
