The body of a man was found in a block of flats in Sofia at least a month after his death. An unbearable smell at the entrance made his neighbors check if everything was fine. The man lived alone, had no relatives, and had a special character.
Among the people who tried to open the man’s apartment was Alexander. He came to visit his parents, who live on the block.
“Due to the measures introduced in the country due to the coronavirus, my parents, as well as other elderly people who live in the block, did not leave their homes. I came for approximately a month and a half to bring them food,” he told Nova TV. .
They repeatedly tried to seek help from the institutions. He called 112, as well as the Police and Civil Protection. From there, however, they were told that under the Condominium Law, the apartment could only be opened by the house manager, but not by the police. To respond, an open corpse alert must be given.
Then the residents of the block decide to call a locksmith to open the apartment. However, his attempts were unsuccessful because he did not have the necessary tools. The other locksmiths they called refused to open the department when they learned there was a body in it.
In a desperate situation, Alexander and two of the man’s neighbors broke the terrace window and entered the man’s apartment. The body was actually found there. Then they called 112 again. Teams from the 6th Regional Police Department, Ambulance and Investigation Service arrived on the scene.
An autopsy will be performed on the body to determine if he died of natural causes or if he was the victim of a homicide.
