Tensions ahead of the first Grand Slam tournament of the year, the Australian Open, are about to rise.
As a result of the measures against COVID-19, up to 72 male and female tennis players were isolated. Among them is the Bulgarian Tsvetana Pironkova, who traveled on a plane with a passenger who passed a positive test. For the same reason, Grigor Dimitrov’s coach cannot prepare the Bulgarian for the Australian Open.
Novak Djokovic wrote a letter with requests for the athletes in question, which are addressed to the organizers of the Australian Open. The Serb wanted better nutrition, provision of everything necessary for training in hotel rooms, as well as accommodation in private houses with tennis courts. Djokovic also wanted daily tests of isolated players and, in case of negative results, to reduce the period of isolation.
The reason for Djokovic’s discontent is the situation in which tennis players live.
