Health Minister Kostadin Angelov told BTV that the situation in the emergency centers is extremely tense and stressed that they need more cars to be able to function properly. He specified that the cars of the Interior Ministry system will be involved in the transport of people infected by coronavirus to hospitals so that emergencies can be hospitalized as soon as possible.

His comment comes after two cases in recent days that have sparked a serious public response. In one of them, an emergency doctor waited for hours in front of the Hospital of the Fourth City of Sofia with a patient in the ambulance who had a proven coronavirus and an aggravated condition. From there, however, they want a PCR test available on paper to be accepted. In the end, the patient was admitted to the hospital, but all this delay infuriated the minister and he insisted on the mayor of Sofia, Yordanka Fandakova, to demand the resignation of the director of the medical institution Arkady Ivanov. The other case is that of a 33-year-old man from Sofia who has been waiting for an ambulance for hours after his health deteriorated. Finally, the young man died before an ambulance arrived.

The Minister of Health clarified that the inspection in both cases will be as quick as possible and stressed that he will not hesitate to sanction those who have exceeded their rights or have not complied with their obligations. According to him, the case of the Fourth City Hospital has shown that there is no organization there. He added that he was furious when he learned that at the entrance of the medical institution they wanted a PCR test to accept a patient.

“An inspection is not enough for me and I will tell you why. Is there a document that the ambulance was in front of the hospital for 2 hours? Is there a warrant that a PCR test was requested? Again the inspection will show that there is no violations because there are no written orders “If it happens, it happens,” added Angelov, after which he said how he would ensure faster transport of patients with deteriorating health.

“Last night I spoke with Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and together with Interior Minister Hristo Terziiski I provided additional ambulances. 25 buses have been provided. On Monday I will meet with all the private ambulances in Sofia, which number about 100. So with one taxi company that could provide an additional number of cars so that patients can be transported to hospitals as quickly as possible, “Angelov said.

Yesterday in front of “Dnevnik”, the spokeswoman for the Sofia Center for Emergency Medical Aid Katya Sungarska explained that they have no problem with the number of ambulances, but with the number of working doctors. He said that new doctors are constantly being infected and there are almost no people willing to work.

According to Angelov, it is incomprehensible how, when he issues an order, prohibiting planned accommodation and planned operations in hospitals, in large medical institutions, especially in Sofia, it is alleged that there are not enough staff to treat those infected with coronavirus.

“If there are not so many doctors, I will enter the COVID rooms. I will also call the deputies, who are doctors, to take off their suits, put on their clothes and go together to treat, after everyone thinks it is so scary I have already been in wards as a doctor, director and minister. I have not seen a doctor who strictly follows the rules and has received serious injuries, “said Angelov.
