Taxi drivers are holding a nationwide protest, Bulgarian National Radio reported. They insist on updating service rates and adequate working conditions.
At 12 noon, taxi drivers will gather in front of the country’s municipalities, and in Sofia the protest will begin with three beams from different parts of the city, which will gather in front of the Sofia City Hall.
The carriers are demanding an update in the prices of the taxi service, the abolition of the patent tax for next year, the equalization of their activities to public transport and the elimination of mobile applications for shared trips. And more: the annual technical inspection of the cars will be valid for one year and will be equipped with a panic button.
The demands of the taxi drivers were presented to the Ministries of Transport and Economy, as well as the Municipality of Sofia during the protest of the drivers at the end of last month, but so far there is no response, said Georgi Dimitrov of the Federation of Taxi Drivers and Carriers.
“The conditions we had set for those in power at the time, we have no news or bones at this time. Taxi services are in a deplorable state. The loss of billing with us is between 70 and 80% during the day and 90% almost at night. “There is a danger that many of us not only lose our jobs, but also lose property, which in 60% of cases is owned by rental companies”, Dimitrov said.
