Claire Daly MEP is expected in Pomorie on Friday, will be asked if she has personal interests in the luxury resort

On Friday 16 October, as announced in the first “24 hours”, Irish MEP Claire Daly is expected to be in Pomorie. It is emerging as the fiercest critic of our country in the European Parliament.

According to preliminary information, the Daily will meet with representatives of the “Sunset Resort” hotel complex, which interfered in the scandalous resolution, giving a negative example of “the shortcomings of the rule of law in Bulgaria”.

This provoked a strong reaction from the mayor of Pomorie Ivan Alexiev, who in an interview with “24 Chasa” said that although he was not invited to the meeting, he would go

According to residents of the city, people close to the left-wing Irish MP had apartments at Sunset Resort and long-standing conflicts with the investor. The Irish owners refused to pay all year round the costs of security and maintenance of the common areas, gardens and swimming pools of the magnificent complex located at the entrance to Pomorie. One of their reasons was that the complex does not work all year.

“The Ms. Daly in question has never corresponded with us, nor has she come to the scene to find out how things are. Apparently, the case fits perfectly with the radical opinions, in order to sew them to the resolution of the principle “Go and prove you have no sister”, commented Nikolay Pavlov, head of the “Owners” department of “Sunset Resort Management” to “24 Chasa”.

In contrast, his left-wing predecessor in the European Parliament, Brian Hayes, had regular correspondence and videoconferences with the complex’s management to clarify matters. After 6 months, the MEP was convinced that nothing was wrong, and even apologized.

This happened at a meeting at his Brussels office before Christmas in 2018, which brought together disgruntled Irishmen and representatives from Sunset Resort. To her

There are 16 of them, and their objections include: “Why aren’t there cheap flights from Ireland to Burgas?”

On the indisputable proof that the Bulgarians did not deceive the Irish and complied with everything according to the legislation in force in our country, a year later Claire Daly again took the case with great bait.

1000 are the apartment owners. Of these, the Irish are around 350 and they are dissatisfied, around 60, which is only 5-6% of all.

The rest are Russians, Dutch, English, Danes, Norwegians, citizens of the former socialist countries and Bulgarians, who regularly pay maintenance fees and consumables.

It is caused by the fact that a building permit for the site was issued in 2003 prior to the adoption of the Land Management Law. These are the so-called Specific Building Rules and Regulations, which allow the measurement of high voltage current in an electricity meter. In this situation, the electricity consumed is distributed among all the owners according to the size of the apartment. The rate is BGN 8 per day for a one-bedroom studio, BGN 10 – for a two-bedroom studio, which means that for a 10-day vacation, for example, an owner has to pay BGN 80-100 for the electricity used. However, when they heard that installing separate electricity meters would cost them thousands of levies, they yelled.

“Not to mention that if we switch to this option, which I doubt, those who stay longer in the complex will find it much more expensive than what they pay now.

Formally, the Irish group adhered to a European directive, according to which every EU citizen has the right to choose a supplier through the free market, so, however, in this case we are not breaking the law ”, Nikolay Pavlov said. That

of the Irish and in response to their complaints, confirmed by the Supreme Public Prosecutor’s Office and all the supervisory bodies: NRA, SEWRC and the Consumer Protection Commission, which lined up for inspection at the complex.

Nikolai Pavlov does not have an explanation for why Clare Daly has bitten the case so badly. She does not own an apartment in the complex herself. Locals say there have been scandals at the complex for 19 years.

Initially, the complex was called “Pomorie Golf and Beach Resort”. The beginning came in 2001, when the Netherlands “Capital Ground and Building Investment VN” bought 50 decars of municipal land for BGN 1.6 million.

The then mayor Georgi Truhchev explained that the idea was to fill the swamps in this area. There were no other candidates for the position and no contest was announced. The complex was scheduled for completion in 2004.

The promises are that the Dutch investor will invest BGN 50 million in construction. The largest investment project in the history of the municipality includes a luxury hotel, villas, casinos, a golf course, swimming pools and courts.

In reality, however, construction started in 2003 and stopped the following year. Only 1/4 of the buildings were erected when a scandal broke out with the Dutch company. Suddenly, his office in Pomorie is deserted, the connection with the Dutch representatives is lost.

By the then high 1000-1200 euros per square meter, there are serious financial difficulties.

According to publications at the time, Irish investors bought properties directly from Capital Ground or through British agencies, including Platinum Developments.

Each client deposits between 15 and 50 thousand euros. In the summer of 2004, the scandal was intensified by the prepaid but not received apartments.

The Irish press reports that more than 400 investors could lose around 12 million euros. Platinum Developments, which is the main intermediary, has sent letters to its clients. They report that Dutch equity investment in land and construction is short of funds and this could affect their ability to complete the project.

Shortly after, due to the bankruptcy of the Dutch investor, it became clear that Irish Platinum Developments was in the process of negotiations to purchase and complete Pomorie Golf and Beach Resort.

Today the complex, which after another change of ownership is already called

Sunset Resort

has a total

770 rooms

The owner is businessman Boyan Bonev, who completed the complex in Pomorie. Bonev managed Nessebar South Beach for many years, but due to a series of signs for violations, the concession concluded with his company Siroko EOOD was annulled.
