A report by Spanish scientists at the Juan Carlos III Institute in Madrid has shown that soccer is not the cause of the spread of the coronavirus in the country.
The Biopump game between Atalanta and Valencia in the Champions League was thought to have caused contagion through the Spanish club’s players and fans. 2,500 “bat” fans traveled to Milan, where cases of the virus have already been reported.
The duel was played on February 19, “San Siro”, but genetic studies have shown that the virus was circulating in the country a few days earlier. There was even a carrier even in the city of Valencia.
The first 28 cases tested were investigated, and scientists estimated that the infection had entered Spain from at least 15 different sources, none of them related to soccer.
In Italy, however, they continue to blame the party in question for the spread of the coronavirus.
It took place when there were already dozens of cases in Lombardy, and due to the match in question, more than 40,000 Bergamo fans went to Milan.
A week later, Bergamo became the most affected city in the country.
