The expansion of Todor Kableshkov Blvd. in Sofia has been delayed 80 days for objective reasons, said Deputy Mayor for Construction Angel Dzhorgov. He inspected the work and promised that traffic on the boulevard in the section from Bulgaria Blvd. to Boyanski Vodopad St. (distance 350m) would open on October 23. However, the deadline was August.
“In June and July it rained a lot and accumulated a delay of about a month, and the construction company had to fulfill several projects with gas pipelines and gas pipelines from private investors. The delay is about 80 days. This is documented in detail and is not the fault of the company. – contractor (Trace Group Hold AD), said Eng.
The 1 km extension of the boulevard costs a total of BGN 22 million
The project for the expansion of Todor Kableshkov Blvd. is worth BGN 11 million with VAT and covers the route from Bulgaria Blvd. to Louis Ayer St., which is 1 km. Another BGN 11 million has been invested in the expropriation of properties along the route, Mayor Yordanka Fandakova said at the start of construction on May 31. Under the contract, it was to last a total of 138 days and end on October 16.
Work is currently underway on the south lane of Todor Kableshkov Blvd. near the intersection with Kostenski Vodopad St., which is in the middle of the project section. Traffic will launch in mid-November.
However, in the section near Louis Ayer Street, it is being postponed for the next construction season, Dzhorgov said. A district heating collector is going to be built at the crossroads itself, which was not planned in the boulevard extension project. It is a priority site as part of the inner ring of the city. “This is not the time for us to do it now, in December,” the deputy mayor justified the postponement for next year.
Under the project, the renovated Todor Kableshkov Blvd. will have three lanes and a bike lane in each direction and with wide landscaped sidewalks. Three pedestrian paths are planned to cross only in the section between Bulgaria Blvd. and Boyanski Vodopad St., Dzhorgov explained.
Currently, traffic on the boulevard is in two lanes on the north lane.
