The “green zone” in Sofia will be expanded from tomorrow. Parts of “Ivan Vazov” and “Yavorov” are added to paid parking neighborhoods. There will be a change in the working hours of the “Blue and Green Zone”.

In a few hours the signage will be unpacked and parking will be paid in both neighborhoods.

With the expansion, paid parking spaces increased by 1,700 to a total of almost 32,000 with those in the Blue Zone.

Although most of the residents of the Yavorov complex have wanted to join the Green Zone, many of them say today that the organization is poor and that parking spaces are few.

On the first Monday of the year, at the request of most residents of the Yavorov complex, free parking will be a thing of the past.

“The previous” Green Zones “, when they were made, the cars stopped here”, one of the residents of the neighborhood -Radoslav Radev- shows the situation of the parking lots and adds:

“And for that reason, the people who live here thought it was a good idea to become a ‘Green Zone’ to get rid of non-neighborhood cars.”

However, most drivers are unhappy with the fact that there are only 350 parking spaces, they are fewer than before, because it will no longer be possible to park in alleys and in green areas.

The Urban Mobility Center explains that most of the parking lots here were illegal.

“There are also narrower alleys, where it is not legal to have parking spaces, and in the end they have parked there until now, but illegally,” said Rumyana Milova – Center for Urban Mobility.

The introduction of paid parking in the Yavorov neighborhood leads to another change: the streets become one-way.

“Given the weather conditions, only the signs are placed so that citizens can be oriented where the parking lots are, where it is prohibited,” said Rumyana Milova – Center for Urban Mobility.

The corresponding mark will be placed in the spring.

In the other neighborhood, which joins the Green Zone, “Ivan Vazov”, most of the residents are happy that parking is paid for.

Another opinion is shared by workers, for whom getting to work by car will be more complicated due to the lack of parking spaces.

There are also changes in the hours of paid parking.

Starting Monday, the “Green Zone” will be open on Saturdays from 10 am to 6 pm. The “Blue Zone” will have that work schedule.
