Sign: Police kidnap Russian activist who tries to expose agent for Navalny poisoning

The team of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny said police today searched the apartment of opposition activist Lyubov Sobol and brought her in for questioning in the investigation, Reuters and AFP reported.

According to Navalny supporters, the police actions were in response to their attempt to knock on the door of Konstantin Kudryavtsev, an alleged agent of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSS), who Navalny said was involved in the failed attempt to poison him.

Lyubov Sobol’s actions were described as “violation of the inviolability of the home” and “threats”. The maximum penalty for such a crime is two years.

Navalny said he set up Kudryavtsev with a phone call asking him to confess to the assassination attempt, Ivan Zhdanov, director of the Navalny Anti-Corruption Fund, tweeted.

Navalny claims that he came forward as an intelligence officer to mislead Kudryavtsev into admitting that the authorities were involved in his poisoning.

Navalny claims he was poisoned with the nerve agent Novichok on August 20 at the behest of the Kremlin. He was airlifted for treatment in Germany after fainting on a plane in Russia. Berlin said he was poisoned with the Soviet war poison Novichok in an attempt to kill him, a claim many Western countries accept.

Putin rejected media reports about the Navalny poisoning. He said they were fabricated from information provided by US intelligence and were an attempt to denigrate the Russian president himself and portray Navalny as more important than he really was.

Navalny is recovering in Germany, but said he intends to return to Russia at an undisclosed date.
