The Orthodox Church today celebrates the ecclesiastical festival of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin.

The day the Blessed Virgin Mary was born is one of the 12 most important Christian holidays, known in popular tradition as the Little Mother of God.

The parents of the Blessed Virgin, the righteous Joaquín and Ana, were generous and merciful people but without children of Nazareth. Overwhelmed by grief, Joaquín goes to the desert, where he spends 40 days in strict fasting and prayer. Anna also fervently prays to God to give her a son. The Lord God hears your prayers. An angel appears before Saint Anne and tells her that she will give birth to a blessed daughter named Maria, by whom all earthly families will be blessed. Santa Ana promises to condemn her son to God.

When little Mary was three years old, her parents took her to the temple in Jerusalem to fulfill their promise to deliver their only son to the service of God. Mary continues to live in the temple, assuming the duty to heal all lonely and abandoned people in their pain.
He left earthly life at the age of 64 on August 15.

On September 8, the Orthodox Church glorifies the Mother of God as guardian of the Christian family and patroness of mother and child.

In many places the tradition of kneading and baking a small cake smeared with honey for the mother, called “Virgin Mary cake” is observed.
