In the past 24 hours, France has recorded 4,452 new coronavirus infections, the lowest number since Sept. 28, Reuters reported, citing health authorities.
The second national lockdown due to the pandemic is beginning to pay off, the agency said. Due to the strict measures, the number of hospitalizations has also decreased. Last month, President Emmanuel Macron said that the daily number of infected must fall below 5,000 to think about softening the measures.
However, experts say there will be no drastic easing of restrictive measures before the end of the year. France ranks fourth in the world in the number of people infected since the beginning of the pandemic: a total of 2,144,660.
In the past 24 hours, 500 COVID-19 patients died, increasing the total number of victims to 49,232. The number of infected people globally exceeded 59 million. The most confirmed coronavirus infections are in the United States, India and Brazil. In the United States alone, there are more than 12 million infected.
