In a special emergency message shortly after midnight, the director of the Interior Ministry, Senior Commissioner Georgi Hadjiev, reported that yesterday’s protest was authorized by the Municipality of Sofia only to carry out actions in the Independence Square, as well as in the area in front of the BNB.
“Therefore, what happened in front of the National Assembly building, a strategic site of importance for national security, are unregulated actions that only aim to increase tensions,” he said.
“In this sense, the efforts of the police authorities are aimed at preventing a further escalation of the situation and a serious violation of public order,” Hadjiev said.
He clarified that at the time of his statement there was a detainee for carrying prohibited items.
