Prosecutor Georgi Chinev announced that the amount of cocaine seized at free market prices exceeded the amount of BGN 5 million. He pointed out that such amount implies a very high degree of public danger of the criminal activity of the accused. His words were complemented by the prosecutor Manuel Manev, who announced that the drug was found on 05.09.2020 (around 06.30) at the Malko Tarnovo border checkpoint, where the car with which a 40-year-old woman was traveling was searched. years. from the city of Burgas and a 51-year-old man who lives in the coastal town.
They have already been prosecuted for the two aforementioned crimes, which they committed in complicity as accomplices. The more serious of the two charges is that of attempted high-risk drug smuggling, which is punishable by “imprisonment” for 15 to 20 years and a “fine” of 200,000 to 300,000 BGN.
An application will be made to the Burgas District Court for an interim injunction “detention in custody” against the two defendants.
Property searches were also carried out during the pre-trial procedure. Items related to the subject of the investigation were seized and sums of 3,000 Swiss francs and about 10,000 euros were found and seized. Prosecutor Manev also said that at this time many actions are being carried out in the investigation and several experts have been appointed.
Mr. Indjov noted that the drug was distributed in 17 packages. It was located in a hiding place in the trunk of the car, and the accused wanted to move from the Republic of Bulgaria to the Republic of Turkey.
