Russia has recorded the most new coronavirus cases in two weeks in the past 24 hours, TASS reported.
The Federal Operational Headquarters for the Fight against Infections announced today about 29,000 infected people identified in the last 24 hours. Thus, the total number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in Russia exceeded 2 million and 848 thousand (more than 1.9 percent of the total population). The country ranks fourth in the world in this indicator after the United States, India and Brazil.
The rate of spread of the infection in Russia increased from 1.01 yesterday to 1.05 (that is, an infected person transmits the virus to an average of 1.05 people), the highest rate since December 7. 511 people with coronavirus infection have died in Russia in the last 24 hours compared to 585 the day before. The death toll in the country is close to 51 thousand (50,858). 1.79 percent of those infected in Russia have died.
Almost 21,000 people have recovered in the last 24 hours. The total number of people who recovered in Russia after being infected by the new coronavirus exceeded 2 million and 275 thousand. 79.9 percent of those infected in the country have already recovered.
The number of new infections and deaths in the last week in Russia is the highest in the 7-day period since the start of the pandemic. From December 14 to 20, more than 194,000 cases of coronavirus were confirmed in the country. More than 3,900 people died.
