The Russian transport police in the Siberian Federal District will ask the Berlin authorities to allow them to participate in the investigation in Germany into the incident with Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny. This was announced by the press service of the department, reported AFP.
Navalny, one of the Kremlin’s critics, was transferred from a Russian hospital to the Sharite clinic in Berlin on September 22 in a coma two days after feeling unwell during a flight to Russia, BTA reported.
In connection with the media reports, according to which Navalny came out of the coma, and as provided for by the European Convention on Mutual Legal Assistance in conjunction with Russian law, the investigation unit is preparing a new request for assistance legal to the competent authorities in Germany. In particular, Russian investigators and a Russian expert must be present while German authorities “carry out investigative actions with Navalny, doctors and experts, even when they receive explanations.” This will give them the opportunity to ask clarifying and additional questions, the agency explains.
