Russia has given Alexei Navalny an ultimatum to either return from Germany tomorrow or face jail time, Reuters reported.

The Federal Prison Service today accused Navalny of violating his obligations under a suspended sentence he received in 2014. The Kremlin critic received a suspended sentence of three and a half years in a money laundering case that he said was politically motivated, reports BTA.

“The person who has received a suspended sentence does not comply with the obligations assigned to him by the court and avoids the control of the inspection for the execution of the sentences,” the statement said.

Today he was sent a summons to appear at the inspection, because otherwise, according to the Russian Penal Code, his suspended sentence could be replaced by an effective one.

The announcement did not specify a deadline for Navalny to do so. However, the opposition published a screenshot of the message to his lawyer, in which he said he had time until 9 o’clock tomorrow to report to the Moscow office.

Navalny was transferred to the Charité Hospital in Berlin for treatment in August. Germany and other Western countries say he was killed with a nerve agent. Russia says it has seen no evidence that he has been poisoned and has denied his involvement in any way.
