Russia burst into tears – a former national died at the age of 54 – World Cup – Others

Former USSR and Russia national Vasily Kulkov died today, bringing fans to tears. He lost the battle with death at age 54.

Kulkov died in the intensive care unit because he was about to undergo surgery, Russian media reveal. He was diagnosed with cancer last year and was recently shot down by a coronavirus.

Kulkov has played for Spartak Moscow, Benfica, Porto, Zenit and Krylya Sovetov.

Porto immediately expressed his condolences for Kulkov’s death. In the 1994/95 season he became champion and winner of the Portuguese Super Cup.

“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Vasily Kulkov. We will always remember him as one of the leaders of the team. Rest in peace, champion,” the club wrote on Twitter.
