“They would be happy to see the Black Lives Matter movement and I want to believe that they will appreciate what is happening in Sofia right now, which I hope is inspired and driven by youth. The strange thing is that what is happening in Sofia – who cares. This is not news. Nobody knows. But when I say that nobody knows, let me say that I live in the United States. Many people here don’t know where England is on the map. I am not saying that England is more important than Bulgaria. They can’t even tell you where Iraq is. Although they conquered it and killed so many. “Everyone’s knowledge of the world is so superficial, just superficial,” he said.
According to Waters, education is what the modern generation is lacking. Or rather, the lack of freedom in education. For him, this is a prerequisite for a terrible reality in the United States.
“Imagine how much people would climb if they had a good education. Unfortunately, it is in the power of the government to make sure that only a small part of the elite of society is educated. The rest are generally isolated and ignored by knowledge, only by knowledge. fact that no money is allocated for their education ”, explained the musician.
According to him, it is dangerous to buy a book from a person who works: he can learn something and use the knowledge to rebel.
I was tempted to ask a question that Waters had probably heard dozens of times. What you think of the wall that surrounds us as people and society. And what should we do to solve it.
What do I think about that? – I think the time has come for people to take to the streets. And if it was me, I would carry a shield and wear a helmet, because these gangsters will kill you. (…) The only thing that matters to the rulers is property. Don’t get on the hood of the police cars, it’s our property and we’ll kill you if you do. It’s just a car, who cares what you’re talking about. This is a human being, there is life, but they don’t care. Yes, I did and I support my actions, ”he emphasized.
In 2013, during his concert in Sofia, Waters clearly expressed his position, writing “Resignation”, supporting the protests against the Plamen Oresharski government.
From the conversation with me he learned about today’s protests.
“Bulgarians are not alone in this, it happens in many, many places in the world and I support them all. And I see it as the beginning of a great global movement, but corrupt kleptocracies, like in Bulgaria, where the ruling ‘elite’ simply everything is stolen while they have the opportunity to do so, using it to protect the armed forces and the police, militarize them, generally poor children. from small towns with no future, no dreams, no prospects for education or work – “Here are your weapons, join to the police, join the army “…”, he pointed out. The generations of rebels icon admits that he often communicates with politicians around the world. He is happy to talk about his friendship and contacts with Gorbachev, whom he defines as his idol.
