The Ministry of Health reported a record incidence of COVID-19 in Bulgaria in the last 3 days: more than 220 per 100,000 people. And the death rate is 50%. Our country ranks second in the Balkans in terms of morbidity and 21st in Europe. In terms of mortality, we rank 10th in the EU and 4th in the Balkans.
“We are far from herd immunity,” said Dr. Boyko Penkov, Deputy Minister of Health.
“The emergency departments are exhausted,” said Pirogov chief Professor Asen Baltov. “Let’s help each other, wear masks, keep your distance,” said Professor Baltov.
Hospitalized cases are expected to reach 4,000 in the next few weeks, the Pirogov chief explained.
According to him, the number of infected will increase and, with it, the number of patients in the intensive care unit will increase. Professor Baltov said that it should be mandatory for private hospitals to give beds to public ones. As of today, two more rooms are opening in Pirogov, one of which will be for infected personnel and 30 beds will be placed in it.
Professor Todor Kantardzhiev emphasized that all the data that doctors export to the public space are excerpts from authorized publications. The NCIPD director says conflicting conversations about the virus are also dangerous.
“Contradictory speech, especially by doctors, is dangerous for society. Infection occurs for a long time of exposure. If you have a quiet conversation with a sick person, you can become infected after an hour. The most important thing is the control of the measures and the conviction of the people that they should wear masks, nobody has suffocated ”, he pointed out.
He recalled the 4 “D”, emphasizing not to overdo it with vitamin D and strongly recommended not to use immunostimulants in large quantities.
Kantardzhiev: We add one more to the three “D’s”
Kantardzhiev reiterated that rapid antigen tests should be adopted in hospital admissions, emergency departments and schools. They can be done by doctors, nurses, or nurses.
“This is the first coronavirus detection test. It costs only 15-20 leva. It must be widely used for control in work groups in order to capture the first cases and isolate them,” explained the professor.
185 laboratories carry out PCR tests across the country, Kantardzhiev added. And he recommended that people get tested for the flu, which costs around 30 leva.
As for influenza viruses, he said that their first circulation began in November.
“She was two months late last year. The epidemic spread of influenza is in December. The peak is usually the middle third or third of January or February.
Rapid influenza tests are also very important to distinguish you from coronavirus.
Regarding schools, Education Minister Krassimir Valchev said that face-to-face training is the best and online learning should not be glorified.
“Currently, the situation is such that there is no single formula, no single solution. I remain of the opinion that schools should not be the first to close and local action should be taken. The fact is that the situation is deteriorating and my arguments are becoming lighter, “explained Education Minister Krassimir Valchev.
He gave the example of France and Germany, which also left their schools open. The Minister explained that 16 countries are being monitored to make an adequate decision also in our country. Only 3 of them have chosen to close schools. According to Valchev, the incidence in schools is at the same level as in large companies and companies. He finds it reasonable to make the decision to online learning in high school, where it is effective, as opposed to elementary school students, where online learning doesn’t work.
“The highest percentage of students in quarantine is in Sofia. To date, I have allowed all the schools that have applied to study in an electronic environment. There are 15 of them, but I hope there will be more. Unfortunately, we have deaths in the system. We must be responsible for this and help the doctors deal with the situation, “added the Minister of Education.
