The chairman of the BSP Regional Council in Pernik Valentin Petkov and the Municipal Council Stefan Krastev will not participate in the list of candidates for the upcoming April 4 elections for the National Assembly. The two made a collective resignation, which will be officially presented at the BSP Regional Council meeting. The leader of the list in Pernik’s 14th electoral district is Stoyan Mirchev.

The two leaders expressed in writing on the Facebook page of the local socialist organization their position regarding the nominations for the electoral list, as well as the reasons for refusing to participate in it. This is what BSP City Council Chairman Stefan Krastev told BNR:

Together with the district president we decided to resign, since we are both committed to the activities of the local authorities for the period 2019-2023, but no less important is the fact that in the arrangement of the elected seats in the list it was not sought the opinion of the local BSP organization, neither at the municipal nor district level, which, despite the statutory norms, is extremely inadmissible.

Krastev declined to comment on the second place on the list, adding that he had learned the information from the media.

As for whether the leader of the list, Stoyan Mirchev, is a familiar face of Pernik’s socialists, he replied: “I don’t know him personally, he didn’t come to Pernik. Judging from his TV appearances, he seems like a smart man, but I don’t know him personally. So far he has come forward to the Pernik party organization. Naturally, we will work with him and do everything possible for electoral success. “
