Radev’s attempt to do public relations behind the back of the Interior Ministry failed

Under the hypocritical pretext of caring for both the police and the peaceful protesting Bulgarian citizens, President Radev did something disgusting and unacceptable: he made his public relations inadmissible and harshly criticized the Interior Ministry for the September 2 vandalism.

Fully in the style and spirit of the positions already expressed by both the BSP and the Poison Trio and some non-parliamentary parties, the head of state accused the police of excessive use of force, beatings of innocent citizens and reiterated the question of why services did not prevent violence.

With this, Radev left no doubt that he was acting in full harmony with the organizers of the riot, who for days called for the radicalization of the protests, with the party that promoted it and confirmed the opinion that he has political responsibility for the pogroms and the violence.

Thus, attacking one of the most important institutions in our country, the Ministry of the Interior, the president, instead of uniting, divides again and acts as a purely political actor, crossing another red line.
To do this, the most important media were invited, some of which broadcast live.

The failure of the president’s plan was as great as the public relations campaign itself was immoral. Because the secretary general of the Ministry of the Interior, the president of the SANS and the director of the SDVR, who were invited to “fill the jugs”, categorically and unconditionally defended the actions of the police on the ground and the decisions of their superiors. All three put the head of state in a confusing situation, denying detailed and specific information due to the presence of the media and the ongoing investigations.
However, they did not stop congratulating the police for their behavior and thanking them, thus showing their categorical disagreement with the opinion of the occupant of Dondukov 2.

From what was still reported to Radev, it was clear to what humiliations, insults and physical attacks the policemen were subjected, the same ones to whom the head of state accuses of excessive use of force and illegal actions.

Thus, the public relations operation, conceived by Radev as a public lynching of the top of the Interior Ministry and its “bosses”, turned against him and made him soften his tone at the end of the meeting.

In conclusion, the President recalled how important the image of the Ministry of the Interior is as a pillar of society and how important trust in it is.

That is to say, Mr President, but precisely criminal actions like yours do not contribute to raising the prestige of the Bulgarian police. Which for the most part you consider respectable.
