With signs “Resignation” and “Radev out”, a group welcomed President Rumen Radev at the entrance to the Plovdiv Fair, where the “Hemus 2020” weapons exhibition opens. The protesters chanted “Resignation.”

Radev’s caravan passed them and entered the exhibition center. Hemus 2020 was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Krassimir Karakachanov and Economy Minister Lachezar Borisov.

Radev called on the state to support the arms industry.

“I hope that the state will further support the national defense industry by facilitating production conditions and stimulating the sale of products so that the Bulgarian military-industrial complex can establish its authority in the international market. I hope that after many years of serious financial constraints, the Ministry of Defense “is increasingly targeting the national defense industry, not only for the supply of ammunition and weapons, but also for the introduction of new technologies and scientific developments,” said the head of state.

According to him, the defense industry is not an ordinary part of our economy, providing employment, but a powerful stimulus for the development of science, innovation and high technology.

Minister Lachezar Borisov pointed out that the Bulgarian defense industry is an important element of our economy. For mg the export of special products exceeded BGN 1 billion.

“Despite this year’s pandemic, 90 companies from Europe, North and South America, Africa and Asia are participating in the exhibition,” said Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Krassimir Karakachanov.
