By January 26, the decree of the head of state that schedules the parliamentary elections will be published in a state newspaper, as required by the constitution. This was stated by the head of state in the program The Year of Darik. He did not respond categorically as to whether the date would be announced in advance by him on March 28. Radev also said that at the moment he does not see any argument to postpone them.

Rumen Radev – President of the Republic of Bulgaria: Can you guarantee that in April or May the situation will be much easier than at the end of March? I will take into account all factors, of course, the situation. Thanks again to all the people who criticize, who make suggestions, they are valuable. But I have already said it: the reason why we are in this state at the end of the year is because of this government and here the dilemma is not between elections and people’s health. Because people’s health has suffered precisely because of this power, which for years has been dismantling social systems and leading them to the deplorable state of today. And this social condition is dealt with with the fastest, fair and most transparent elections possible.

When asked if March 28 is a good date for the elections, Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Donchev also responded on the same program.

Tomislav Donchev, Deputy Prime Minister: We are always ready for elections. There is no bad date for the elections. Given the social tensions that have built up over the past year, the earlier the elections, the better. In this regard, may all protesters, political opponents, political candidates, have the courage to participate in the political battle and competition, and may His Majesty the Sovereign determine who is better than others. Of course, from a pandemic point of view, the longer elections are until the warmest part of the year, until spring, the less risk there will be for citizens.
