“I veto some of the provisions of the Law that modifies the Electoral Code.” This is what President Rumen Radev said in a speech to the people.

According to the president, the changes in the law have the clear objective of guaranteeing the official victory of the ruling party in the next elections. He was adamant that preconditions are being created to violate the fairness of the vote.

The legal commission rejected the president’s veto on changes to the Judicial Power Law

“Major rule changes a few months before the election, without a real debate on the merits, are an example of the unpredictability of state power,” Radev said of the mechanical vote.

Addressing the people, the president noted that after months of protests against the government, polls recorded a collapse of public confidence in the government.

“The government’s refusal to listen to the voice of the citizens prolongs the agony. In this situation, the cabinet does not rule, but seeks to avoid political responsibility, “said Radev.

The National Assembly approved in second reading the amendments to the Electoral Code

“The usurpation of the Electoral Code is subordinate and motivated by the same objective. The latest changes allow simultaneous introduction of paper and machine voting and manual counting, making machine voting meaningless.

According to Radev, the transfer to the CEC of the decisions and the responsibility to rent or buy the machines in practice means an escape from the responsibility of the parliament.
